Master CICO & Unlock Clean Muscle Growth

Understand energy balance, calculate your exact TDEE surplus for hypertrophy, and fuel your body for maximum strength gains.

Understanding CICO (Calories In, Calories Out)

The absolute foundation of body composition management. No matter the diet style, thermodynamics always govern your weight changes.

🍽️

Calories In

The energy consumed through food and beverages. Every macronutrient (protein, carbs, fats) and alcohol provides thermal energy measured in kilocalories.

🔥

Calories Out (TDEE)

Total Daily Energy Expenditure consists of BMR (basal metabolic rate), NEAT (non-exercise activity), TEF (thermic effect of food), and EAT (exercise activity).

⚖️

The Balance

Consume more than you burn = Surplus (weight/muscle gain). Consume less = Deficit (fat loss). Balance equals maintenance weight.

Muscle Gain (Hypertrophy) Principles

Building muscle requires more than just eating in a surplus; your body needs the right chemical and mechanical signals.

Rule #1

Progressive Overload

Muscles will only grow if forced to adapt to a tension overload greater than previously experienced. This means gradually increasing weight, reps, or improving form over time in your resistance training routines.

💡 Tip: Track your workouts meticulously. Stagnant weights lead to stagnant muscle growth.
Rule #2

Sufficient Protein & Surplus

Protein provides the essential amino acids to repair and synthesize muscle tissue. Aim for roughly 0.8g to 1.0g of protein per pound of body weight, paired with a modest calorie surplus (250–500 kcal) to minimize unwanted fat gain.

💡 Tip: A controlled surplus prevents rapid fat accumulation while ensuring maximum muscle protein synthesis.
